"I recently played this tanda at the Tucson Tango Festival and it got a lot of positive feedback... it's one of my favorite (and slightly unusual) Rodriguez with Moreno tandas with two songs that are more well-known by Di Sarli"

Thank you for the tanda Paul! Be sure to check out the other tandas by Rodriguez on TOTW.

Tanda of the Week 12 / 2012 -
Biagi / Ortiz

1. Rodolfo Biagi / Jorge Ortiz - "Ahora no me conocés" 1941 - TangoTunes
2. Rodolfo Biagi / Jorge Ortiz - "Indiferencia" 1942 - TangoTunes
3. Rodolfo Biagi / Jorge Ortiz - "Yo también" 1940 - TangoTunes
4. Rodolfo Biagi / Jorge Ortiz - "Todo te nombra" 1940 - TangoTunes

Jorge Ortiz
There have been quite many Biagi tandas on the blog so far but I realised that some of the songs that I definitely play the most were still missing and those would be these with Jorge Ortiz on the vocals. Ortiz had the most success recording with Biagi, but he also recorded with Donato (for example "El día que me quieras" from a few weeks back) and Miguel Calo.

These are all songs that are well known from other orquestas as well: "Ahora no me conocés" by Ángel D'Agostino, "Indiferencia" and "Yo también" by Juan D'Arienzo and "Todo te nombra" by Francisco Canaro. There is a nice version of "Yo también" also by Hector Varela with Argentino Ledesma.

Tanda of the Week 11 / 2012 -
Francisco Canaro (instrumentals)

Listen to the tanda - MP3

1. Francisco Canaro - "Retintín" 1938
2. Francisco Canaro - "Fiebre" 1938
3. Francisco Canaro - "Por tu querer" 1938
4. Francisco Canaro - "Ciertos amores" 1938

This weeks guest dj tanda is from Mauro Berardi from Italy and it's another Canaro tanda but this time instrumentals. Mauro did an excellent job playing in the opening "Icebreaker" milonga of our Tango Frostbite festival in Helsinki Finland.

Mauro has a background in classical music and has been an active tango dancer since 2002. He has been a dj since 2005 and is a resident dj of the two most important milongas in Rome: Milonga del Barrio and Milonga della Stazione. He has also been a dj at many international festivals and marathons and a popular guest dj in milongas around Europe. His style is traditional but very personal: "I like tandas with orquestas from 30's and 40's and some from late 40's and 50's. There are no rules during my dj sets. Only the flow and the energy of the floor are important!"

Tanda of the Week 10 / 2012 -
Francisco Canaro y Roberto Maida

Listen to the tanda - MP3

1. Francisco Canaro / Roberto Maida - "Dónde?" 1935
2. Francisco Canaro / Roberto Maida - "Envidia" 1936
3. Francisco Canaro / Roberto Maida - "Mi noche triste" 1936
4. Francisco Canaro / Roberto Maida - "Fracaso" 1936

More of Canaro with Maida! This weeks guest dj tanda comes from Roberto Lehner from Basel, Switzerland. Roberto has been dancing since 1995 and dj'ing since 2007 and he described himself as a dj of traditional tango mostly from the 1925-1940 era. He has been a dj in numerous events and milongas, one of them being the international EasterTango Festival where he will be dj'ing this year for the 5th time.

He describes the tanda as follows: "Canaro with the voice of Roberto Maida for the calm and peaceful  morning hours after a long dancing night. There is only the music, your woman in your arms. Thats one of the most beautiful way for me to live Tango."

Tanda of the Week 09 / 2012 - Troilo / Fiorentino - Cada día te extraño más

1. Aníbal Troilo / Francisco Fiorentino - "Cada día te extraño más" 1943
2. Aníbal Troilo / Francisco Fiorentino - "En esta tarde gris" 1941
3. Aníbal Troilo / Francisco Fiorentino - "Cautivo" 1941
4. Aníbal Troilo / Francisco Fiorentino - "Te aconsejo que me olvides" 1941

The opening track of this tanda "Cada día te extraño más" ("I miss you more each day") is one of my favorites from Troilo. Something very dark and powerful about this song.

EDIT 26.8.2013: Not so sure about this tanda anymore. All good songs and the tanda probably works as a transitional tanda but I have to admit the first and the last song are quite different to dance to.

Check out the collection of great quality digitalized Troilo shellacs on TangoTunes.com.
